Car full of sand, salty hair, wet bathing suits, pink skin, collection of shells: we had a fabulous day on vacation.
Last night the bugs demolished us, and after a quick camp supper we sought shelter in the tent. In the morning we beelined to the beach for a swim before the storm off the coast made landfall; the dark, dynamic clouds spelled out torrential rain and an afternoon spent indoors.
Happily, after a hearty Southern brunch at The Hominy Grill, the slimy, muggy weather cleared. We took a quick jaunt around Charleston and admired its romantic colonial architecture, its beautiful abandoned squalor. Then we returned to the beach and spent the remainder of the afternoon swimming in the warm and uniting ocean, stalking sand crabs and sting rays, playing games and soaking up occasional sun rays. It was heaven.
