Building a Routine

This is our adorable straw-bale home.

Day three on the homestead gave us a glimpse of what our days will look like. Wake up at seven and let out the alpacas and chickens. Eat and get ready for the day until 9am when we start working on a project. Longish lunch break. Finish up around 5, and do animal chores at 5:30.

Today our projects were a lot more challenging than sorting corn kernels. First, we fit foam insulation into the walls of a room of a new building. The room will be a focus for us for the next week or more. I’m excited that we’re going to cover all the walls with a few inches of cob (a mixture of mud and straw). Who doesn’t like to play with mud?

Also, we took down a fence around an open room on that same building. We’re going to pour concrete walls and put a roof on. Eventually that room will become an extension on Kyle’s shop. This place is always good to learn how to build.

This is the water tower Kyle built that looks over the property from atop a hill.
